Ogden's Basic English
International Internet Words.
This discussion is to chose words as part of the 21st Century project to add to the Basic English dictionary as international Internet words. If any of these words are not understood by other international users of the Basic English, or to make recommendations of internet related words or concepts that need to be included, please discuss through the
Institute. These might be words frequently flagged in your use of BE spell check. An immediate goal is to find tentative additions to the spell check wordlist, an Open Office dictionary.
This word list started as words that kept causing errors in use of the Basic English spelling checker when answering email from readers. Several Internet vocabulary websites were reviewed, as was keyboard, and typical core software to find additional necessary words. The Internet field changes; all of the vocabulary websites included
the word "floppy" for a device which is rapidly being replaced by CD and memory sticks.
In fact, many new PCs no longer include a floppy. Ogden would find commonly used words representing the concept of a removable storage media. Take away memory?
Names of people, companies, and software need not be included in the Internet wordlist because of the Basic English rule to allow all proper nouns - those capitalized in English.
Example: Bill Gate's Microsoft Word. By extension, capitalized abbreviations may be used where the audience is expected to have knowledge of the meaning from prior content, but not necessarily from the same piece of writing. Example: CD, PC, WWW.
Basic Words: Words that are already used in Basic English in which the internet or personal computer application can be added to the definition, if required.

Consider:
suggested Basic wording for internet concepts that came into existence after Ogden's dictionaries. Create a conventional dictionary supplement for consideration by the members.
Organization: International Internet and PC oriented words make up a vocabulary of common use and understanding. These are not considered in the Basic English word count. Symmetry suggests that we add 50 words to an International Words
for Internet that are common through the world community. If appropriate (if there are too many words), we can add 50 International Words for Personal Computing.
Newly determined International Words - candidates

Some of these words are in the Basic wordlist and there is just an additional sense for
internet/computer uses:
base, center, copy, list, page, post, program, project, system, table, test,
For those words that are not shared among the international community, we must make up an additional detail wordlist of 50 internet words. This detail category might come under a general category of 100 words such as Science or Literature or new general categories such as Electronics or Computer. In that case there will be more words and concepts available. In the first case, General Science would add : application , cell , column , component , screen , shell . General Literature (Verse) would add : arrow , search .
Both VOA Special English and Specialized English -- current languages derived from Basic English -- consider the word "computer" is required.
Not Basic words: Concepts that need to be defined.
